She enjoyed garage sales, home décor, her home away from home in Cooperstown, NY and could always be seen wearing one of her fashionable hats.īarbara is survived by her daughter Bernadette Kirkey of Poughkeepsie, her grandchildren Melissa Kirkey of Poughkeepsie and Timothy Kirkey and his fiancé Tiffany and her daughter Valerie of Lawrence, MA, her great-grandson David Arriola-Kirkey of Poughkeepsie, future great-grandson of Lawrence, MA expected in November, her sister Theresa Zydel of East Springfield, NY, her sister-in-law Shirley Wright of Wiccopee, NY, many nieces and nephews (all of whom have their favorite Aunt Barbara story), her lifelong friends Cathy Gastino, Doris Hummel, Darlene Rinaldi and many other very dear friends. Barbara was devoted to her family and loved spending time with them and friends. Barbara worked at IBM and at Dutchess Community College, where she retired after 51 years and received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Classified Service in 2017.
